Black Sheep

You always said you were a sheep
The black one of the family
For years you searched your place to keep
And did so with much dignity;

But who is this guarding over me?
The one that watches, the one that sees
The one who stands in way of harm
With heart of gold and warmth of palm;

A sheep I see, I must relay
This one not black, but a golden way
Of eyes so wise and manner gay
And with such spirit, I cannot say;

And if you look into her eyes
You will fall into a sky
Of blue so deep, which cannot lie
And hold you till your fear has died;

What have you done, where have you been?
I look for you, I can't begin
You are my beacon, my only fin
When I am lost and cannot swim;

You are my light, to climb that hill
And if I stumble, I'll hold on 'till
I find the rock that will hold me still
And you'll be there, I know you will;

Still more, this sheep will never run
Away to hide, it fears no one
For it stands strong under the sun
To guide the way for old and young;

But do not be fooled, a sheep so keen
A mind as this, you have not seen
And those around will seek to glean
The bits of brilliance upon the green;

This mind so bright to burn the eyes
Of those who hide behind disguise
And wit so sharp to cut through lies
And kill deceit of those unwise;

But if in turn, you fall, you cry
Or need a place to run and hide
I will not think, or ask you why
A promise made, you can rely;

I will be there for you to hold
As you have been, I will be bold
I'll search for you in darkness cold
I will repay your heart of gold;

So lest you fret, that you're a part
Of other's blood, of foreign start
No need to wish upon a star
Look in my eyes and see your heart
